“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” I Cor 2:9 NLT
Habitat for Humanity is a faith-based organization that strives to eliminate sub-standard housing. The Cobb Interfaith Habitat Coalition is a diverse group of faith organizations that have united to sponsor a Habitat home for a deserving individual/family in cooperation with the Northwest Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity affiliate for the past 25 years. Habitat provides ‘A hand up, not a hand out’.
This year’s home will be built in Austell. The potential homeowner must have a proven record of employment, good credit, pass a background check and not exceed established income thresholds. They must invest about 200 hours of ‘sweat equity’ by working on their own home, other Habitat homes or Habitat activities. They will attend over 100 hours of classroom training focused on budgeting, home repairs and other topics that prepare them to be good homeowners. They will have a 30-year, interest-free mortgage on their home financed by Habitat. The build will take 9 weeks to complete using volunteer labor from the Interfaith Coalition under the guidance of trained Habitat volunteer leaders. Volunteers must be 16 years of age except for the final landscape day and possibly a paint day when youth age 14 may participate.
Ways to partner: financial gifts, volunteer for build days (usually Saturdays), provide and serve lunch for volunteers and prayer.
